Dr. Michael Anderson, Chiropractic Doctor and MS Acupuncture
Dr. Michael Anderson was born and raised in a southern suburb of Buffalo, New York. Before graduating from Canisius High School, Dr. Anderson learned to live and practice by his school's principle mission statement, “Men for Others." While in high school, he continued his passion for athletics; however, neck pain kept him from playing. After finding relief from a local chiropractor, Dr. Anderson found interest in pursuing a career in serving others as a chiropractic physician.
Canisius College, also located in Buffalo, New York, is where Dr. Anderson decided to start his pursuit of becoming a chiropractic physician. He graduated with cum laude honors, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Science – Biology. Soon after graduation, Dr. Anderson began studying to become a chiropractic physician at National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Illinois. While attending NUHS, he was introduced to acupuncture as another complimentary treatment for a variety of afflictions. As a chiropractic physician, the State of Illinois only requires 100 hours of training to offer acupuncture as a means of treatment. However, having the best interest of his patients in mind, Dr. Anderson decided to work towards earning a Master’s Degree in Science – Acupuncture, requiring over 3,000 hours of education and clinical rotations.
Dr. Anderson has been a practicing chiropractic physician and acupuncturist within the community since January 2010. Practicing by a high standard of personal integrity and applied ethics, Dr. Anderson is devoted to helping people efficiently and effectively. As a chiropractic physician, Dr. Anderson certainly understands the benefit of manipulation (an adjustment) in order to help restore the functional integrity of a joint. In addition, he always examines each patient for any faulty biomechanical patterns that may be related to one’s chief complaint. Without addressing the relationships of the joint structures and their associated muscles, one cannot optimally treat a patient and expect long-lasting results.
It is this approach that has allowed Dr. Anderson to have successfully treated many injured athletes from all levels including junior high and high school athletics, Division I collegiate programs, amateur sports, marathon runners, weekend warriors, and everything in between. Of course, one certainly does not need to be involved in sports to be suffering from pain. Oftentimes, pain has a very benign beginning. No matter what the cause may be, some of the more common complaints include plantar fasciitis, neck and low back pain, tennis elbow, shoulder pain, knee pain, shin splints, hip pain, and headaches among many other orthopedic complaints.
Dr. Anderson has taken his medical knowledge and applied it with how he treats patients who desire and/or can benefit from acupuncture. His strategy combines the theoretical principles of Eastern medicine with the ongoing, supportive research from the Western medical community. By utilizing the information gained from studying acupuncture via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), and laboratory analysis with the principles of traditional theory, proven results have been gained. Some examples of patient complaints Dr. Anderson has been able to help include fertility issues, stress, anxiety, symptoms secondary to chemotherapy and radiation, neurological diseases, congestion, irritable bowel syndrome, menstrual related symptoms, and headaches.
In his spare time, Dr. Anderson enjoys spending time with his family, exercising, and reading. He finds pleasure in all sports including hockey, rugby, soccer, and racquetball. He is a community activist, volunteering with such organizations as the American Cancer Society, youth high school rugby, and the Illinois Special Olympics. Dr. Anderson and his wife, Katie, are both excited to welcome their first child in April 2012.

Bridgit Gooden Chandra's Bio Yoga Instructor
Bridgit Farai Charandura Gooden was born in Kadoma, Zimbabwe. As a little child Bridgit was drawn to inversions and various contortions, things not expected of a well-behaved girl. Her mother quickly realized that she needed to only buy pants for her daughter, and she nicknamed her “Fundu” to symbolize her inability to sit still.
Over the years, Bridgit, an avid athlete, learned that she needed to be a responsible adult with a practical job that would allow her to look after her family. So when she came to the US she chose to study Economics at Knox College in Galesburg, IL. Fortunately it was a liberal arts college, so she was exposed to many other disciplines while pursuing her BA in Economics. She graduated and moved to Chicago to work as a Data Analyst for a Marketing Strategies Consulting company (Ronald J. Krumm & Associates, later known as Analytic Innovations, LLC).
While working in the corporate world, she found the stresses that come with the job negatively impacting her life. She joined the gym to de-stress during lunchtime or after hours. It was at a LifeStart Fitness Wellness Center that she discovered Pilates and Yoga and rediscovered her childhood passion that had been bottled up for years. After an extended period of coaxing and probing from co-workers and close friends, she finally enrolled in Pilates Teacher training under David Englund of Ultimate Fitness in Evanston,IL, and later Yoga Teacher Training under Daren Friesen of Moksha Yoga Center in Chicago,IL. She is now a Certified Pilates Instructor and a Certified Yoga
Bridgit has a keen eye for detail and a strong work ethic, which contribute to her teaching style. She is passionate about proper form and alignment, safety in practice, as she challenges her students to grow in their practice. She teaches both beginners and more advanced students and strives to cater to everyone that shows up for class. Bridgit loves serving others and is passionate about work-life balance and cultivating healthy lifestyle choices in herself and her students. As a teacher, she is committed to learning about a pose, practicing it and then sharing it with her students after she has embodied it.
Yoga Teaching Style:
At Moksha Bridgit was introduced to various styles of Yoga, but her main influences in teaching style were Jim Bennitt, Kim Wilcox, Rich Logan and Alie McManus. Her style of teaching follows a Tantric Hatha/Vinyasa style of Yoga. For a more vigorous class, she draws more from a Vinyasa style (Breath-synchronized movement involving special sequencing designed with a specific theme in mind). For a less vigorous class she focuses on holding specially sequenced static poses for longer periods of time, allowing the students to get into the pose, to stay and explore the pose and how their bodies feel while paying particular attention to their breath.
She likes to incorporate short Guided Meditations (Dhyāna), and Controlled Breathing exercises (Pranayama) in her classes
